Dr. Clinton H. Churchill official opened “Radio City” on October 27, 1951. The new “modernistic” home of WKBW was Buffalo’s first radio station to be housed in a modern studio and office building designed exclusively for broadcasting. Radio Center stood at 1430 Main Street on the same site where in 1926 WKBW’s original transmitter was housed. The studios on Main Street replaced a facility that was atop the Victor Building in Downtown Buffalo. The opening ceremonies was marked by a gala celebration was included a two-hour broadcast featuring radio entertainers both local and national, as well as recording artists, city and state officials and leading personalities in the radio industry. Highlight of the festivities was a coast-to-coast broadcast through the facilities of the American Broadcasting Company. Set back from Main Street, a full two hundred feet, and fronted by a landscaped lawn and circular driveway, Radio Center had the latest developments in studio facilities and broadcasting equipment when it opened. Beyond a modernistic reception room, the executive and business offices and the various departments including the news and sports bureaus, program office, technical and public relations offices were astride a corridor extending through the building. Studios and control room were at the rear of the site.WKBW move its studios to 695 Delaware Avenue in October of 1978. It moved to its current location in Amherst, New York in 2000.
