Forgotten Buffalo: Historic & Hip...An Urban Explorer's Guide to the Buffalo-Niagara Region: Unique Landmarks, Historic Gin Mills, Old World Neighborhoods, History, Nickel City Oddities, Tours and More!
The “golden age" of Downtown Buffalo was already a memory when this collection of photos were taken during the late 1960s. The urban renewal strategies of the 1960s reshaped the Buffalo skyline that had not changed since the late 1930s.Main Place Mall (1965-1969), M&T Bank (1964-1966) and the Marine Midland Center (1969-1974) were all built during this period. If you look closely at the 1969 picture of Main Street looking south, you can see the foundation for Marine Midland Center just being constructed. Centered at the foot of Main Street, the Marine Midland Center (now HSBC Center) would forever cut the link between the Downtown Business District and the waterfront.
