Not so long ago, New York State and Buffalo mattered in Presidential politics. So important was Buffalo that during the autumn of 1964, both Republican and Democratic candidates made stump stops in Western New York. On October 15, 1964, President Johnson was accompanied by Robert F. Kennedy at a Niagara Square rally in front of Buffalo City Hall. Shortly after the Republican National Convention, Barry Goldwater and native Western New Yorker Bill Miller visited the Niagara County Fairgrounds.
The following pictures belong to a slide collection owned by John Schag of BuffaloInFlames.com. The images were originally taken by a Dr. Murphy. Murphy was a well- known and loved gentleman who, while not the BFD Doctor, worked closely with the unit. Any fireman or policeman could come to his practice without an appointment and be seen quickly. He was also an amateur photographer and, because of his work with the BFD, could get 'behind the ropes' at many scenes. The following 35mm slides were transferred using a Nikon film scanner.
